The Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) is a 4 - year fund designed to support the Government of Somaliland (GoSL) filling a critical gap supporting projects that are fully aligned to the National Development Plan (NDP). SDF is currently funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), the Embassy of Norway and the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The SDF has allocated funding to the Government of Somaliland (GoSL) for the Sool and Sanaag Education Project implemented by the Ministry of Education and Higher Studies (MoEHS) and the Sool and Sanaag Health Project implemented by the Ministry of Health (MoH), and intends to use part of the funding for Conducting Hydrogeological Studies at Las Anod Boarding School and Las Anod Hospital.

The Somaliland Development Fund Secretariat now invites applications from qualified Individual Hydrogeological Studies Experts to provide the above services.

Required Qualifications/Skills

The teachers will have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

Qualifications and skills

  • At least a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Hydrogeology is required or a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Geology with a specialization in Hydrogeology. Masters of Science in Geology/hydrogeology or related field is an advantage;
  • Demonstrated ability to use and interpret variety of geophysical instruments is required;
  • Demonstrated excellent command of spoken and written English. Fluency in Somali will be an added advantage although not essential; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills.

General professional experience

  • At least 10 years demonstrated experience in water supply field especially in ground water assessment, borehole design and drilling activity.

Specific professional experience

  • Minimum of 6 years conducting similar studies in the Horn of Africa region. The consultant must demonstrate that they have conducted at least five similar assignments in the last 3 years with an 80% drilling success rate;
  • Knowledge of Somaliland and Horn of Africa experience in ground water resources assessment is essential.
